Interlude 4 — Yeah, It'll Definitely Happen Soon

間話4 うん、近いうちに絶対そうなるよ

“Ryouya-kun really does get caught up in a lot of trouble.”

“And a lot of the trouble he gets into is not engineered by us, which is the strange part.”

After Ryouya-kun walked us home, Riona and I were having that conversation. We’ve engineered some of the trouble — but a lot of it, like today’s pickup attempt, happens on its own.

For instance: at the Kisarazu fireworks festival the trains stopped and we ended up at a love hotel; the recent flash thunderstorm. Things like that almost never happened to me before, but with Ryouya-kun they happen constantly.

I’m relieved that today’s hit-on attempt was a man. Riona and I are both abnormally possessive, so if a girl had been hitting on Ryouya, I don’t want to think about what we’d have done.

“Maybe Ryouya-kun actually has a really bad-luck constitution.”

“Possible. Normal people don’t get attacked by random stabbers.”

When she put it that way, even the appalling incident that started our love for Ryouya-kun might have been pulled in by the bad-luck constitution.

The number of people in a lifetime who get attacked by a random stabber is extremely small. Statistically rarer than winning the lottery.

“But — doesn’t it feel like Heaven is on our side?”

“Sure, even the trouble that happens by chance keeps working out for us.”

“Right? That feels like the gods telling us Ryouya-kun is yours to take.

The accidents have, helpfully, been peripherally fortifying our position. Ryouya-kun’s first kiss was stolen because a gondola lurched, after all.

Today’s pickup attempt was unpleasant to watch, but ended with Riona pleased, so net positive.

“If the gods are on our side too, then Ryouya being ours is inevitable. Fated.”

“Yeah, it’ll definitely happen soon.”

Though if the gods were against us, we wouldn’t slow down a notch. Any obstacle that appears, we run through.

We’ll clear everything in our path and embrace Ryouya-kun in our deepest love. Forever.

The volume-one finalization wrapped earlier than expected, so updates resume. The print version has additional yandere-flavored material added in places — look forward to it.

This chapter was meant to start Chapter 3, but I took the opportunity to do a Reona-POV interlude. Chapter 3 starts next chapter for real.

A separate work note: many of you reading this also read my other work “Apparently I’m Being Given Twisted Affection by a Modern Gal Older-Sister Childhood Friend” (https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16817330669706182980), so a light update — I’ll have manga-adaptation news for that one soon too.

Updates on it have been paused while this one is the priority, but I haven’t forgotten. Please be patient.
