Stage 2 Chapter 32

Prologue 2 — After the Engagement With Karen Was Settled~

Prologue-2 カレンとの婚約決定後~

☽ Month, 〇 Day

Finished the duel and became Karen’s fiancé.

Hold on a second.

This is off. I went to lodge a protest with the Headmistress and got a thumbs-up back…… and why is Karen’s trash father just rolling over and accepting it?

If you’re going to make a frustrated face, at least put up a fight.

I still haven’t been able to see Karen since that day.

Said there were preparations to be made. Confirmed it’s not the wedding, so — minor relief……

No point thinking about it now……

For now, let me focus on managing the mood of Mashiro, who’s been sulky ever since the engagement was decided.

☽ Month, # Day

Hmm…… maybe I was the shallow one all along.

Judging people on appearance alone, ranking them by it.

I’m reflecting on the truly terrible behavior I’d been engaging in.

Karen stopped cross-dressing and came to school in the girls’ uniform.

One thing changed in a big way.

Her chest had gotten seriously thicker.

Bulging to the point of distortion.

And so — I accepted the engagement with Karen.

Look, what was I supposed to do.

It would be weirder to reject a girl with boobs this big, who is cute, and who has feelings for me.

You couldn’t find better conditions even if you scoured the entire academy.

Therefore, I will be devoting myself diligently as Karen’s fiancé.

☽ Month, ▽ Day

I was appointed a Student Council officer.

Hey hey hey hey. The more I take it in, the less it makes sense.

Apparently it’s the Headmistress’s consideration to slightly improve my standing now that I’m Karen’s fiancé.

What about reporting, communicating, consulting? Don’t use political power to lock the situation in place before announcing it.

That hag — I swear, one day I’m going to deck her.

The problem isn’t even just that.

Mashiro is also somehow now on the Student Council.

Opposing the prospect of Karen and me spending alone-time together, she’d nominated herself.

When I was reluctant, my Two Great Big-Breast Heroines — Karen and Mashiro — looked up at me daily with pleading eyes.

Gh! I am NOT going to lose to boobs.

I won’t, I won’t, I won’t……!

☽ Month, ☆ Day

I became a Student Council officer.

I don’t want to see anything, hear anything, remember anything.

Recalling my own pathetic state wounds my heart, so I’m sealing the memory.

Milfonti’s smile — that I saw right through you smile — pissed me off beyond words.

So I’ve ended up joining the Council. But it seems the thing she’s expecting from me isn’t the regular duties.

The Headmistress’s true objective was putting Mashiro and me on the academy’s roster for the Inter-Academy Magic Tournament.

☽ Month, ⇒ Day

The Inter-Academy Magic Tournament is, ostensibly, a competition where nine magic academies from various regions test the strength of their students — in other words, it’s a student showing-off competition.

Ten three-person teams (Three-Man Cells) are picked — thirty representatives total.

There are various divisions to compete in…… and apparently they want to slot Mashiro and me onto Milfonti’s team.

From what I’ve heard, in last year’s tournament, even with Milfonti — apprentice of the [Floné the Lightning Strike] — on the squad, they only managed runner-up, and the upperclassmen on the same team caught a hell of a beating for it.

A school made entirely of nobles losing to academies mixing commoners must have been the height of indignity.

Milfonti herself produced results, so she was caught in the storm of criticism nonetheless.

Considering all that, I’m probably being slotted in as a sacrifice.

No failure can be tolerated. The others fled the pressure.

In that regard, I’m a man already steeped in bad reputation — perfect as a target for criticism.

I don’t want to be on the Council, but going out as a representative is something I’m actually positive about.

If I can make contact with students from other academies as a competitor, I can build connections with promising students for future recruitment.

Not everyone in the world is a good person, and some students are looking for an employer.

A school packed with this many noble sons and daughters exists only here — the royal Lichberg.

For those kinds of students, having a ducal-house backing makes me a strong candidate as an employer.

Hunting for harem candidates within the academy is getting hard.

So — time to direct my eyes outward!

Are there any out there~? Cute girls with big boobs!

☽ Month, ☼ Day

Since being put on the roster, I’ve been spending more time with Milfonti.

We’re on the same team, so when you consider coordination, that’s natural…… but her gaze is suspicious.

A probing kind of look, like she’s peering inside me. A creepy feeling.

So even she — her master’s decision or not — must have feelings about it.

She’s dissatisfied with me being chosen.

What do you know. I’d thought she didn’t show anything like emotion, but she has a cute human side after all.

So I told her — if she has complaints with the Headmistress, I’d take them up myself.

And then, for some reason, she laughed at me.

What. So you can laugh properly after all.

☽ Month, ? Day

I’ve noticed, by spending long stretches of time with her — Milfonti is a capable woman.

She’s thoughtful, gets along well with Mashiro and the others, and doesn’t back down to me.

Above all, the tea she brews is delicious.

So delicious that when I praised it constantly, Alice — rare for her — got a little deflated.

In this life, I’ve gotten everything I’ve ever wanted.

I couldn’t recall hearing about her future plans, so I made the leap and tried to recruit her.

I thought Milfonti would give me an answer independent of the Karen engagement.

Well — I got rejected.

But — what is “I don’t have the right to that” supposed to mean?

…… Is she self-conscious about her chest being smaller compared to the other members?

For now, I’ve decided on a policy of not giving up and continuing the recruitment.

☆ Month, ♡ Day

The stage for the Inter-Academy Magic Tournament is the island nation Lamdarb Kingdom.

Apparently it’s Milfonti’s birthplace.

It hit rock bottom during a past war with the Demon races, but it’s now flourishing as a tourist destination.

In a sense, since our placement in the tournament doesn’t directly affect our futures, we’re in vacation mode.

Milfonti must have many places to revisit in her hometown after so long.

For her, someone who rarely voices her own opinions, I get the feeling that solo movements have unusually increased.

I’ll keep an eye on her.

That aside — Mashiro? Tugging at my clothes out of jealousy — please stop.

☆ Month, ▲ Day

Our team was naturally entered in the Magic Combat division — the division that best leverages Milfonti’s and Mashiro’s abilities.

Drawn into four blocks, the winning school is decided in a tournament format.

Karen, dressed up beautifully, waved at me energetically.

And then, for some reason, beside her, Alice was directing a mysterious cheering squad, running the whole operation.

Stop. Don’t yell. Don’t wave a flag.

The looks I’m getting from around us are not okay.

…… Damn it! Fine, I’ll do it!

I’ll go on a rampage, dammit!!

☆ Month, A Day

In both magic and martial arts, we’re cohesively high-level — there was no way our team was going to lose, and we kept climbing the bracket smoothly. But then a shady rumor reached us.

Several students from each school had apparently gone missing.

And once our mad dog (Alice) hears something like that, she can’t stay quiet.

I don’t care what happens to the other students, but I cannot have Mashiro and Karen targeted.

After I, too, took the matter up with the organizing committee, [Floné the Lightning Strike] herself, apparently, was going to move to handle the situation.

Even if the tournament were canceled, it’d take several days to exit the country.

The Lamdarb Kingdom side viewing this as their time to profit and showing resistance is the cause.

So all that’s left is to deal with it personally.

I moved from the dormitory the academy had prepared to a local high-end inn, posted Aliban and his men on security duty, and Alice and I went on max alert too.

That should put us at least somewhat at ease.

Out of team courtesy, I invited Milfonti as well, but she chose to stay with the students remaining at the dormitory in her capacity as Council President.

A choice that suits her.

But — have you noticed, Milfonti?

That you no longer even put on a smile.

☆ Month, ⁂ Day

I’d been worrying about Milfonti’s strangeness — going to the dormitory was the right call.

She hadn’t been in good shape after all; she’d taken a wound.

I confronted them in fact — they were that level of skilled.

If [Magecraft Funeral] weren’t specialized for fighting magicians, I might have been kidnapped along with her.

Floné’s reinforcements arriving and the enemy disliking a drawn-out fight — those two things saved my life.

I was able to protect the Milfonti who mattered to me, and as a result the other students were protected, too. You could say it ended up the best possible shape.

…… If I cross paths with the attacker again, I’ll have to release one more of my hidden cards.

And one more thing. I told her this, too.

“Once I’ve decided I want something, I have no intention of giving up on you.”

In any case, tomorrow’s the finals.

Let’s settle everything.

~ A month of time passes ~

☼ Month, & Day

Things have finally settled back into the everyday, so I figured I’d write a diary entry for the first time in a while.

Let me sum up what’s happened to me.

I became Student Council President in Reina Milfonti’s place.

Reina became my new fiancée.

And, in recognition of preventing civil war, the King officially decided to bestow a title upon me.

…… How did it come to this?

◇ Kept you waiting. Chapter 2 — [Inter-Academy Magic Tournament] arc — begins.

Looking forward to your continued support this year as well.

※ Chronologically, this is the episode that comes before the “I want to grow up” line from Chapter 1’s Prologue. ◇
